The Buddha Memorial Center and Somewhere

#2012-0215B

Although Jean and I are Christians, we were willing to accompany her mother (my mother-in-law) on the trip to The Buddha Memorial Center this morning. The Buddha Memorial Center, called Fotuo Jinianguan (佛陀紀念館) in Chinese, is a Mahayana Buddhist cultural, religious and educational complex located in Dashu District, Kaohsiung City. Since this newly opened Center was introduced (or advertised) on television, my mother-in-law had wished to visit it -- someday in the future! And yet her two daughters (including Jean) would like to help her "get her wish soon." And I volunteered to be the driver taking them there in a car.

At the Memorial Center, we saw a so-called "4D Motion Picture" telling the life of the Buddha, the one who began the religion of Buddhism. In addition to this and other Buddhist items exhibited indoors, we saw quite a lot of tea trees with beautiful flowers (in different sizes and colors) blooming here and there. These were an exhibition of outstanding natural things, which I most enjoyed.

In fact, we also went to Donggang (東港), an urban township in west-central Pingtung County. Donggang is famous for its fresh and abundant seafood. The bluefin tuna (黑鮪魚) sashimi cuisine available here is especially popular, and the town's other delicacies include mullet roe (烏魚子) and cherry shrimp (櫻花蝦). We did taste some, but our coming here was mainly because we had wanted to see a relative of ours who had just come to start working here in Donggang. She is Elisa Huang, a pretty, smart and kind girl. May the Lord richly bless her, as always!
