A Translation of "The Clouds"

Below is a translation of my poem, The Clouds, which I shared late last night.

《雲》

在美崙溪的轉彎處，

午後的亮光

靜悄悄滑向海面。

東方的天空中，

白與灰交疊，

雲聚成山——

且有一道細流，

向東流去，

匯入柔白的海灣沙色。

在一瞬間，

遠方的雲

化做群山傲立的

南投縣內一處村落：

杉影、雨聲，

與小我尚未成就的青春，

依然停留其間。

或許，我早就能畫下這些山。

或許，我早就適合在山間歌唱。

然而貧困讓人提前了解，

許多道路

一旦關上，便不再回頭。

於是歲月如水，

自山中流出，匆匆遠去。

偶爾，卻仍會有

某種無聲之物

升起，

如雲，在無人知曉的谷地成形。

山。河。港灣。

然後，一切再度沉默。

也許如此便已足夠：

站在飄浮的長空下，

直到某一片隱形的風景

從心底緩緩回應。

A Beautiful Scene in the Sky

The Clouds

At the bend of

Meilun Creek,

afternoon light drifted

toward the sea.

In the eastern sky,

clouds gathered into mountains

in white and gray—

a narrow stream

flowing eastward

into a pale bay of light.

For a moment

the distant clouds became

the mountain village

of Nantou County,

where cedar shadows, rain,

and my unfinished youth

still remain.

I might have painted such mountains.

I might have sung among them.

But the poor learn early

how quickly roads can close.

So the years passed—

water leaving the hills.

And still, sometimes,

something wordless rises in me

like clouds forming

over unseen valleys.

Mountains. Rivers. Harbors.

Then silence again.

Perhaps that is enough:

to stand beneath the drifting sky

until some hidden landscape

begins to answer from within.

尚志橋上

晨風穿衣袖

山在呼吸

踏上坡道

樹影尚稀疏

光落石階

忠烈祠靜

白牆無聲立

鳥過天空

（四）

溜冰場邊

舊風仍迴旋

時間輕滑

（五）

草地遼闊

孩童笑聲遠

春意未盡

（六）

文人園裡

步子自然慢

葉落無聲

（七）

林蔭大道

風自深處來

心也放下

（八）

野菜學校

門內人間味

滷香微暖

（九）

豆干與蛋

手中仍留溫

午後漸斜

（十）

三號橋上

水光收日影

歸途無問

新鞋與鮮花

二月初，買新鞋，

老夫妻的新約定：好好走路。

千萬別跌跤、別滑倒。

所謂「一失足成千古恨」

到了這年紀，千萬千萬⸺

不能摔（即使天雨路滑！）

老婆說：老骨頭經不起一次摔。

老公補充道：對。

總不要因一個不小心

或一雙鞋的緣故　

傷了（資深的、骨鬆的）你我。

於是，兩人同心

二月初買了新鞋　延續

元月三十的「花田小路」

結婚四十餘載之慶祝～～

如今，又過了三十天

又進入到屬於你我的月份

March⸺生日都在 "march" 呀！

那日花田裡採回家的

十朵新鮮玫瑰　都已凋零

而慢三天才買回來的

兩雙 A.S.O 鞋　依然好看

何止好看？⸺真好穿！

兩相匹配，尤為大方。

無論大晴天或小有陰雨

穿上這防水、防滑的鞋　繼續

走路：這就是兩老的「約定」

人，越走越舒服；鞋，越穿越知足。

洄瀾景色太匆匆

蹓躂崙溪又始終

野草迎春添翠綠

虯枝戀舊掛殘紅
