Eye Contact (眼神交會)

#2020-0525

From my Collins COBUILD English dictionary, I saw some sample sentences with the phrase "eye contact" in them that are so eye-catching to me:

  • She tries to make eye contact and shake his hand over the tea and coffee after services.
  • [PHOTO] Is it eye contact or long legs?
  • I had to take the lead; he didn't touch me initially and when we talked he avoided eye contact.
  • Cog already has some of the basic skills needed for joint attention, such as the ability to maintain eye contact.
  • But that brief eye contact was enough, even if the shop window he was peering into with such interest hadn't been a ladies' heel repair bar.
  • While most three-month-olds have developed eye contact, it is not until nine months that they follow another person's gaze, and 18 months that they follow someone's gaze out of their field of view.
  • The scheme might not seem as cold-blooded if there was eye contact involved.
  • Look confident, walk quickly, don't make eye contact with male strangers, and don't show your fear.
  • It saves the pressure and embarrassment of eye-to-eye contact, especially when you say NO!
But for me, it's most interesting to see a Ye-Lu (夜鷺, the black-crowned night heron) looking at a small turtle in the pond (See photo below). In fact, it's the small turtle that swam closer to the Ye-Lu (night heron) standing on the bank; when the innocent reptile was approaching the bird, the bird stepped down from the higher part of the bank -- Now it was standing on a flat rock just half a meter from the tiny creature in the water. And I saw that the head of the turtle was up on the water. They're now looking toward each other! What are they trying to express in their Eye Contact? -- 那龜、鳥之間的「目光接觸/眼神交會」究竟會激發出什麼樣的什麼呢?.......
