More Than a Farewell

#2025-0604

How sad it is to lose a good friend!

And yet, I find myself asking a hard question: Are we really losing someone when he or she passes away?

If they have simply left this earthly world — like a traveler who is far from us for the time being — then, while we can no longer meet them in person, what we can do is miss them deeply. In this sense, are we truly losing the person we love and respect?

This morning, Jean and I — like many others, including members of the Four Degrees C Band (四度C樂團) — attended the funeral of our dear friend, Ms. Shanrong Wu (吳姍蓉). We felt a deep sorrow that Ms. Wu, such a kind and cherished friend, had physically left us. And yet, we have all continued praying for her and her family, grateful that she completed her life on earth meaningfully — and has now begun living, more freely and joyfully, in another heavenly realm, free of all worries.

As the Bible says, “Dust you are, and to dust you shall return” (Genesis 3:19). May the Lord Almighty love and bless you too, Shanrong — a respected Buddhist and/or Taoist believer!
