Hiking on a Mountain Path

#2019-1023

This afternoon we hiked on a road that we hadn't walked along for years. Everything we saw on our way to and from the small temple of the Earth God (尖後土地公廟) on top of the mountain was so interesting to us. We could recall quite a few memories -- you know, memories of those walks on this mountain path had faded away, but now they came back to us one after the other, suddenly.

Besides old memories, we found something new. For instance, when walking up on the steep slope to the Temple of the Camphor Tree God (霧峰樟公廟), we passed by some retaining walls (擋土牆) on which poems written by Lin Chaosong (林朝崧 1875-1915) were exhibited. In the past -- I mean, about 10 years ago, this section of the road had already been called 霧峰詩路 (= the road of poetry in Wufeng). At that time, the poems displayed on these retaining walls were in colloquial Taiwanese, but now what you can see here are in the traditional style instead. And in addition to poetry, you can find lovely pictures painted on other retaining walls (See top right).
