雲山水 VillaHome 民宿

"雲山水 VillaHome 民宿" 地址是花蓮壽豐鄉豐坪路二段二巷 201 弄 18 號；其官方網站 (villa18.com.tw) 開頭的 "Welcome to VillaHome" 寫著：

　雲　飛舞在天空　千態萬狀　絢麗多彩，

　山　連綿著天際　或起或伏　山巒疊翠，

　水　如明鏡　醉映著幻畫般的夢境 . . . . .

顧名思義，有雲，有山，有水；此三者，誰是主角呢？（頓時 "好奇心" 興起 "大哉問"！）

• 是「雲」還是「山」？
• 是「山」還是「水」？
• 是「水」還是「雲」？

有一詮釋，說「雲山水」實非三者分立，乃是「雲 + 山水」或「雲山 + 水」之義；可分別解作「幻化如雲的山水／雲一般的風景」或者「水鏡映山雲／水中可看山、可觀雲」之類的描述。另一種見解，先從１到２，再到３，最後又回到１；這樣的說法，就如同「水中雲➠雲裡山➠山間水」；其實，這是一個不間斷的循環。

Hualien Culture and Creative Park

Taking a walk in the Hualien Culture and Creative Industries Park this morning, we found that it used to be where red wine and rice wine were made, that is, the former site of Hualien Distillery & Winery. 

(此園區原為 “花蓮酒廠” 所在地，現今酒廠已遷入 “美崙工業區”。)

附註： The park spans over an area of 3.3 hectares and consists of 26 old factory warehouses. (園區占地 3.3 公頃，由 26 個舊廠倉庫組成。)

哥哥生日快樂

May my first grandson be happy today, tomorrow, and always!

Last month Jean and I came from Wufeng to celebrate our little grandson John's birthday (see the previous post). 

In the same way, we arrived in Hualien City on the evening before James' birthday (October 18) so that the three generations of us (爺爺, 奶奶, 爸爸, 媽媽, 哥哥, 弟弟) can meet for a "simple but meaningful" celebration of the 12th birthday of Gege (哥哥, "the elder brother").

Following are a few pictures of the birthday party tonight, taken and shared by my son, the father of the birthday boy -- In fact, we're now planning to celebrate his birthday with a more formal "dinning out" on Thursday night. Until then he will be too busy to go out for a leisurely dinner.

The Church Choir

The choir of St. Luke's Episcopal Church, in Hualien, sang the song "寧願有耶穌" (I'd Rather Have Jesus) in Chinese this morning . . . Yes, I always enjoy seeing and hearing my two grandchildren singing hymns in the choir, even through the church live system.

苦楝 (China-berry Tree)

我所熟悉的苦楝，又稱苦苓、楝子、金鈴子、花心樹 . . . 

小時候在水長流的老家，房屋旁就有幾棵「苦楝仔」(台羅拼音 khóo-lîng-á)。一年當中，有個季節（我忘了是什麼月份）總會看見樹幹上有 "星天牛"，那可愛的昆蟲特別愛咬苦楝的樹皮、嫩枝及葉片。

據了解，星天牛 (citrus long-horned beetle) 會把卵產於樹皮內，待幼蟲孵化之後會侵蝕樹幹。難怪那時候我聽大人提起苦楝，他們總是語帶玄機地說：「苦楝仔！苦啊！樹身未死，樹心先死。」

那種「身未死、心先死」的形容，用於許多凡夫俗子（包含你我不？）的人生寫照，有時候，特別在某些關鍵的時空中，還蠻可以理解的；至少聽起來頗有幾分 "同感" ----- 同情且或同理呀！

總之，霧峰「民主草坪」步道兩側所栽植的苦楝樹，有些已長大，且結實累累（如圖）。今日路過，不禁回想起小時候，父老所言有關苦楝樹的身心比喻；我雖抱持信仰，有主同行，但思及 "苦楝" 情事（即 情景、狀況、現象、或事實），仍不免有些莫名的喟嘆。😞😥

附註：

1. "苦楝" 為楝科楝屬植物。中文別稱甚多，如：苦苓、楝、楝樹、楝子、森樹、翠樹、旃檀、楝棗樹、紫花木、花心木、雙白皮、金鈴子、洋花森......等。其英文名稱有 China-berry tree, pride of India, bead-tree, Cape lilac, Persian lilac, Indian lilac, white cedar 等等。
2. 在台灣，對 "苦楝" 的不同稱呼，舉例如下：
   閩南語：khóo-lîng-á (苦楝仔)。
   排灣語：Bagasu、Vangas。
   阿美語：Vangas。
   卑南語：Gamut。
   泰雅語：Baaaran。
3. "苦楝" 的學名，叫做 Melia azedarach。本種的種加詞 (specific epithet) 譯義為苦楝的阿拉伯語植物名稱。
