Jean and I were very happy to act as Godparents of one of the kids being baptized. -- Look! The little girl Zuo Wei (nicknamed Duo Duo) is so cute and smart, just like her elder sister (nicknamed Liang Liang). And the young parents Mr. and Mrs. Zuo (Xintai and Wenqing) are really a nice couple, very warm and friendly, even if they may still be regarded as newcomers to our church! ... Anyway, Jean and I have very much liked them all.
The next morning (on Easter Day) the Zuo family invited Jean and me to have some photos taken at the church, right after the service (See photos below). You may notice that in some of the pictures I am to pass something to Mr. Zuo as a gift for the little kid Duo Duo. What did Jean and I give as a baptismal present? It was just a small gift; what it was didn't really matter. But it's the words printed on the card that I've really valued; the words are a quote from The First Epistle of John, chapter 4, verse 7; taken from the Revised Chinese Union Version (和合本修訂版).
約翰一書 4 章 7 節
"親愛的,我們要彼此相愛,因為愛是從 神來的。凡有愛的都是由 神而生,並且認識 神。" (和合本修訂版; Revised Chinese Union Version, Shen Edition)
"親愛的弟兄姊妹,我們應當彼此相愛,因為愛是從上帝來的。凡有愛心的人都是從上帝生的,並且認識上帝。" (Chinese Contemporary Bible)
"Dear friends, let us love one another, for love comes from God. Everyone who loves has been born of God and knows God." (New International Version, NIV)
"Dear friends, let us love one another, because love comes from God. Whoever loves is a child of God and knows God." (Good News Translation, GNT)
"My dear friends, we must love each other. Love comes from God, and when we love each other, it shows that we have been given new life. We are now God's children, and we know him." (Contemporary English Version, CEV)
