On the first Sunday of 2011, or the Second Sunday after Christmas, we have a special brunch party on the eighth floor after the English service. We do have this kind of potluck brunch every month on the first Sunday; however, as it is still in the season of Christmas, we would like our "monthly potluck fellowship" a little different for this Sunday.
As you can see [from the pictures below], we have had a cheerful and joyful time: We eat and drink and chat happily, as before. What is more, we take turns performing "in public"! Some do singing; some tell jokes; some . . . Well, I like Warren's recitation of his poem the most. The poem, a piece of writing created by Warren over three decades ago, is entitled "Birth Night".
Here is a quotation of the poem:
BIRTH NIGHT
Singular,
dissecting eternity,
born from darkness
celebrated
as holy,
introducing LIGHT
to peoples blinded
Far-off night watchers
scan heavens,
worshipping skies, they peer,
and behold ~
THE STAR
in full regalia
Celestial courts assemble
in regal anticipation . . .
angelic choruses
with harp glissandos
announce it;
shepherds and dignitaries
attend it;
the BABE'S cry
assures it
Homage knees bend.
THE KING is born;
HEAVEN
has leaned into history
this one night
of nights
~ Warren Charles Sevander, Christmas, 1978
