The stories surrounding this special festival are fascinating to those of us whose ancestors were Han people (漢族).
Some say it was originally meant to celebrate the Chinese poet Qu Yuan (屈原); others believe it was previously for Wu Zixu (伍子胥).
But what I know is that the Dragon Boat Festival (端午節) is one of the four most important festivals here in Taiwan. To celebrate it, we usually eat a particular food called "zongzi" (粽子), watch or even take part in "hua longzhou" (划龍舟), and hang aicao (艾草), changpu (菖蒲), etc., on our doors.
On this special day, Jean and I returned to Dajia to spend the festival with her mother, my dear mother-in-law. Of course, we also saw many other relatives who either live there or had returned for the occasion!
