十五歲的喜悅 / Fifteen, with Thanks

#2025-1018A

Today, October 18, marks a special milestone — our grandchild James turns fifteen. Time moves quietly yet swiftly; it feels like only yesterday he was still a little boy running around our home.

Yesterday evening, the Luo family — Mr. Guorong Luo, his wife Xiao Yu (Little Fish), and their two lovely children, Da Hai (Big Sea) and Xiao Hai (Small Sea) — joined James and me for an intimate celebration in a room on the first floor of St. Luke’s Church. Mrs. Luo had made a delicious homemade cake, whose delicate taste we all enjoyed, and together we spent several joyful hours singing, chatting, and laughing.

As we shared stories, I couldn’t resist teasing Mrs. Luo:

“Your nickname is interesting,” I said. “How can ‘Little Fish’ give birth to ‘Big Sea’ and ‘Small Sea’? Shouldn’t it be the other way around — that the sea gives birth to fish?”

Everyone laughed heartily. That laughter, I think, was the best birthday music of all.

We are deeply thankful to the Luo family for their warmth, friendship, and thoughtful gesture. Their visit made James’s fifteenth birthday even more memorable.

Gratitude makes every celebration brighter — and this one, especially, will stay in our hearts.
