十月初：October Again!

It is October again! The beginning of this month always means something special to me — at least, I can still remember several things that happened in this glorious season in past years.

When I look back at my personal blog, I can find even more memories recorded in words and photos. For example, on October 1 last year, Jean and I discovered some beautiful morning glory flowers on the hillside where we took a walk.

And in 2023 — the year before last — Rev. Sam Cheng, my neighbor and good friend in Wufeng, celebrated Holy Eucharist at St. Luke’s Church here in Hualien, also on October 1. Two whole years have passed since then. How quickly time flies!

Among them, there is one that makes me feel both happy and sad: happy because I had the best parents in the world, who cared deeply for each other and loved their children dearly; and sad because they have both passed away — one in 2015 and the other in 2000. Thanks to the photos I’ve kept on my blog, I can still remember so much about them — so clearly, truthfully, and reflectively.

As for today, the first day of October this year, it’s another ordinary day, but in a different place. Here in Hualien, Jean and I are taking care of our grandchild James. Early in the morning, I gave him a ride to school. The photos below show what I saw — before and after our usual routine.

Well, I’m thankful, and I praise the Lord: here and now, the glorious October begins again!
