又一次來到 Music Waterwheel

We had originally planned to visit the 92 Coffee (九二咖啡故事館) this morning, but upon our arrival, we discovered that it is closed on Tuesdays. Consequently, we changed our destination for today from 92 Coffee to Music Waterwheel (音樂水車).

Jean and I have been to Music Waterwheel several times. We adore this unique cafe, not only because it is situated in my charming hometown, Guoxing, but also because it evokes numerous memories every time we visit for a short stay.

Today, while spending two or three hours at Music Waterwheel with Jean and my sisters, many things came to mind. The four of us had a lively conversation, reminiscing about both the good and bad memories we shared in our lives together.

It is certain that Jean and I, along with my sisters and others, will return to have another cup of coffee here in the near future.

Celebration of the Double Ninth Festival

This year's Double Ninth Festival falls on Monday, October 23rd; that is, tomorrow. Members of St. James' Church who are 65 years old or older have been invited to have lunch at the Pin Hong Qiao restaurant (品虹橋滬川美饌) today to celebrate this important festival for the local community.

Jean and I were among the invited "senior members" of the church. Oh, how time flies! Both of us are already over 65! Anyway, we're happy to have joined the celebratory lunch with our good friends from church...

Best Wishes to the Newlyweds!

Big congratulations and best wishes to Eric Huang (黃榮璋) and Viola Mu (穆瑜萱) on their special day at St. James' Episcopal Church!

I was honored to be invited as one of the "ministers" for today's Celebration and Blessing Service, starting at 2:00 p.m. I happily took on the role of LEM, or sidao (司禱) in Mandarin, during the Christian wedding ceremony.

The ceremony was a beautiful celebration of love and commitment, and I'm so excited to see Eric and Viola start this incredible journey together. Their union at St. James' Episcopal Church truly showed the enduring power of love. As they begin this new chapter, my heart is filled with joy for the newlyweds.

May their days be filled with laughter, nights with shared dreams, and may the love that shone during their ceremony keep growing stronger every day. Wishing Eric and Viola a lifetime of happiness, love, and countless cherished moments together. Congratulations once again to the happy couple!

Upon the fence, where high it stood with grace,

A little egret in nature's grand show,

Beside the water's ditch, a quiet place,

A mystery concealed, I longed to know.

From nearer side, my vision strained to see,

Its stillness puzzled, purpose undefined,

With camera phone, a snapshot captured glee,

Preserving the enigma in my mind.

Back home, the image on my screen did show,

Enlarged, the truth unfolded clear and bright,

The egret, dining on a fish below,

A feast of nature's wonder, pure delight.

In tales like this, where secrets are unfurled,

A sonnet weaves the beauty of the world.

As Christians, we pray for one another, and sometimes we even extend our prayers to include animals and birds. We firmly believe in the power of prayer for all things around us, particularly living creatures, as they are divine creations of the Lord God!

Today we paid tribute to the legacy of Francis of Assisi* (亞西西的方濟各, 又譯作聖法蘭西斯). Following the conclusion of the Sunday service, Rev. Antony Liang, the vicar of St. Luke's Church in Hualien, offered a special prayer for several pet dogs that their owners had brought to the church.

*A Note: The Anglican church retained the Catholic tradition of blessing animals on or near Francis' feast day of October 4th, and more recently Lutheran and other Protestant churches have adopted the practice. (英國聖公會保留了在 10/4 當天或靠近 10/4 的日子祝福動物的天主教傳統，最近信義會和其他新教教會也採用了這種做法。)
