Our Special Visitor: My New Friend

#2016-1002

As our rector, Rev. Lily Chang, was in Chiayi today carrying out a supportive program at St. Peter's Church, our English-speaking congregation at St. James' had Morning Prayer instead of Holy Eucharist this morning. However, we were delighted to have a special visitor from the UK, Mr. Raj Patel, the CMS regional manager for Asia (see right).

Mr. Raj Patel had visited several other churches in Taiwan over the past few days, accompanied by Ms. Catherine Lee. During his visit to our church, he delivered a wonderful and impactful sermon. I was very impressed by his message about the triangular relationship of Self-discipline, Love, and Power (see photos below).

In the afternoon, Jean and I, along with our grandson Little Bee, acted as "private tour guides" for Raj and Catherine. We took them to the 921 Earthquake Museum and Mingtai High School, both located in the Wufeng district where we live. While walking on the campus of Mingtai High School, our good friend (and neighbor) Rev. Sam Cheng joined us. In the evening, we returned to the church and had dinner at a nearby restaurant with Rev. Lily, our senior warden Mr. Samuel Chen, and the CEO of St. James' Preschool.

After spending the day with Mr. Raj, I strongly believe that he and I have become, or are on the way to becoming, very good friends. He even purchased a copy of my book, A Story Untitled + 9 Other Stories, from Amazon.co.uk, saying he would read it soon! The Lord bless you, Raj!
