To reduce the load on the bookshelves in our study room, Jean had often suggested that we get rid of some old books and papers. I was reluctant to do so because, like old photos, I cherished the books and notebooks I had collected or created—they were reminders of my life.
Still, a few years ago, I did part with many of these "cherished books and notebooks" to transform our study room into a bedroom for my mother. She was unwell then and needed to stay with us. Now that my dear mother has long since passed away, Jean and I feel it’s time to prepare a “bedroom” for ourselves, as we’re not getting any younger!
We’re especially grateful to our son, Antony, who took time off from his church duties in Hualien to help us remove so many books from the study room on the first floor. His big help has made this project so much easier for us.
