Many thanks to our good friends Fujun Lin and his wife, Meilan Lu, for their kind invitation to Gihak Homestay (see photo on the right). It is a beautiful place they founded and now run in Shoufeng, Hualien County.
About six years ago, our Liang family spent three days visiting Hualien. During that trip, we stayed both nights at Gihak. I still remember how much we enjoyed chatting with them—those moments felt like paradise, both fantastic and real.
This morning, after I gave James a ride to school, I received a call from Fujun, who is No. 1 of the Camel Brothers (駱駝班 座號第1號). Warmly invited, Jean and I went to their “home base” to meet them. To our surprise, my former classmate Fujun was playing the piano when we arrived. After a few hours of conversation, he invited me to play whatever melodies I could remember on the violin (he said he hadn’t played it for a long time!). Meanwhile, he accompanied me on the grand piano in his guest hall as I played pieces such as 思慕的人 and 黃昏的故鄉.
