What a beautiful name—Qixingtan Beach! The word Qixingtan literally means "the lake of seven stars." If you check Wikipedia, you'll find a brief introduction to the history of Qixingtan Beach.

All in all, even though we didn't care much about the beach's history, we loved visiting it for its ever-changing scenery, which varies with the seasons. Indeed, we always enjoy coming here time and again!

#2025-0128A

Together with Dr. Daotian Guo and his wife, Keyang, we enjoyed the happiest moments on Lunar New Year's Eve, sharing nianyefan (a "renuion dinner") at St. Luke's Church in Hualien. During and after the meal, we chatted freely about everything, including some memorable anecdotes from our past. We smiled and laughed time and again, as we had so many similar life experiences to share. I'm very grateful to the Lord for making it possible for Jean and me to come to know Dr. Guo and his wife as good friends, even though our two families have usually lived so far apart.

Blooming at the Doorstep

#2025-0127

At noon, while waiting to take out the trash, I stood at an alley entrance on Minsheng Road, along with a few neighbors, for the district garbage truck to arrive. Suddenly, I noticed two small gardens, one on each side of the entrance—lush with greenery and bursting with vibrant flowers. Under the bright sunlight, they looked especially stunning. I soon realized that these little oases belong to Principal Mike Hsiao, who has a passion for planting flowers. What a delightful and enviable sight, right in front of his home!

(Scarlet Leaves)

#2025-0123

光華映老程;

The ChatGPT's interpretation:

The poem reflects on life's latter stages and the natural course of time. Here's a line-by-line interpretation:

逆筆寫餘生 ("Writing the remaining years in reverse strokes")
This suggests looking back or reflecting on life, perhaps reinterpreting past experiences as one moves into the later years.

光華映老程 ("Radiance reflects an aging journey")
Even in old age, there's a glow or light that shines, symbolizing wisdom, experiences, or the grace of life lived fully.

紅塵多自可 ("The bustling world is often as it is")
Life and the world continue in their busy, chaotic way. There is an acceptance of life as it is, without the need for resistance.

葉落少人爭 ("Falling leaves find little competition")
As the leaves fall (a metaphor for aging or life's transience), there’s a sense of peace and lack of contention. It implies a quieter, more serene phase of life where there's no need to compete or strive.

Overall:
The poem evokes a sense of quiet reflection, acceptance of life's cycles, and the beauty of aging gracefully, like falling leaves in autumn. It also hints at finding peace and contentment amid the bustling world.

A Thank-You to Our Beloved Youngsters

#2025-0121

Thank you, Zhongxiao and Lifang, for visiting us this afternoon. Spending time with you brought us so much joy, as we reflected on those days when we were much younger and looked forward to the years ahead with hope and faith. Most importantly, we are reminded to cherish the present—the here and now—which is always a precious gift.

Thank you also for this wonderful photo—it will serve as a beautiful reminder of our shared journey through life.

#2025-0114B

After the Camel Class Reunion yesterday, several Camel brothers and their wives extended the gathering with an overnight stay at Sun Moon Lake. Today, they visited Xuanzang Temple, Ci’en Pagoda, and the Xiangshan Visitor Center before enjoying a traditional lunch at "Qin Cai Shi" (沁彩食) in Shuili. The group then parted ways and returned home.

To my surprise, Camel #13, who resides in Checheng, invited us over for coffee. Camels #9, #16, #21, #27 (that's me!), and #37, along with our spouses, gladly accepted the warm hospitality. Not only did we enjoy the high-quality coffee, but our host also guided us on an in-depth tour of Checheng, a famed and long-admired destination.
