大雪山 (Big Snow Mountain)

#2012-1212

Together with our friends (and their relatives), Jean and I went up to Da Xue Shan (literally, Big Snow Mountain) the day before yesterday. We spent an extremely cool night up there, the temperature being around 5 degrees Celsius in the late evening. But we did have new and interesting experiences during this 2-day trip.

Say, Jean and I saw a beautiful bird, Swinhoe's Pheasant, walking and then hopping across the road when our car was slowly approaching it. (Of course, we slowed down to let it go in safety.) We both felt very lucky to "come across" the bird, which is endemic to Taiwan, as none of our teammates had such a nice chance to see one during the trip.

In our common life, Jean and I have just visited Da Xue Shan for the second time. There must have been over 20 years since our first visit to that mountain area. I still remember that it was so cold up there that shortly after we reached the "tourist hostel" for the first time, together with our neighbors and friends, several members of the team got a bad cold and a fever! [Luckily, Jean and I were no longer afraid of the low temperature high up there this time.]
