跟飄落的葉子一起玩 (He Loves the Falling Leaves and the Fallen Ones)

#2014-0404

This morning we were so excited to see the leaves falling like showers of rain. And we were also happy to see the fallen leaves under those trees that we call Tao Hua Xin Mu -- that is, mahogany [mə`hɑgənɪ] in English.

Mahogany (桃花心木) is a type of hard reddish brown wood used for making furniture, or the tree that produces this wood. According to Wikipedia (English), there are three species of Swietenia (桃花心木屬). The three species are: (1) Honduran or big-leaf mahogany (大葉桃花心木), (2) West Indian or Cuban mahogany (小葉桃花心木), and (3) Pacific Coast mahogany (墨西哥桃花心木). And what we have here in the Provincial Assembly Memorial Park is the first species, so-called "big-leaf mahogany."

When Jean and I took Little Bee, our grandson, to the Memorial Park this morning, he really had a wonderful time. He played with us on the fallen leaves of the mahogany trees, and sometimes in the "showers of falling leaves" -- Obviously, he loved the falling leaves and the fallen ones very much.
