Jazz Eucharist on Pentecost Sunday, 2017

We've just had another wonderful celebration of Pentecost Sunday: Just as we did last year, we used a lot of Jazz music during Holy Eucharist to celebrate the Pentecost Sunday this year. And we did something new: We had an English-and-Chinese combined service in which the Gospel (John 20:19-23) was read in many different languages, simultaneously.

For example, Rev. Lily Chang read it in Mandarin Chinese; Tina Pan, Jean Huang, and Diana Wang in Taiwanese; Jerry Liang, that's me, in Hakka; Chris Lew in Cantonese; Atsushi Yoshida in Japanese; Jooyean Song in Korean; Jeff Liu and Annie Huang in French; Christoph Wu and Hans Geiger in German; David Puckett and Claire Wang in Spainish; Patrick Carlson in Afrikaans; Carmen Carlson in Xhosa; Argin Hsu in English. ... Well, the same Gospel was read this morning at St. James' in at least a dozen of languages! If Simon Cuschieri, who is from Malta, had come this morning, he might have read in Italian; and his partner Rose could have read in Tagalog or the like!

I had never heard anybody speak Xhosa until this very day. You know, I was so curious about the Xhosa language that I tried to find it out on the Wikipedia website. Dear readers! Are you interested in this language, too?
