Jiao Wo Xinhuang de Dianhua (A Private Call with Bad News)

#2011-0113

Wo zhendi hao danxin, hao danxin a!
[English paraphrase] How ridiculous it was! I was almost taken in by a telephone call this morning. When I answered the phone, my heart beat extremely fast . . . I was very nervous!

Jintian shangwu, laopo gen tade jiemeitao pashan qu le. Jia-zhong zhi you wo yi ren. Turanjian dianhua xiangqi. Huatong de ling yiduan chuanlai erzi de shengyin.
[English paraphrase] I was at home by myself. Who would call me this time? Holding the phone receiver, I heard my son's voice.

"Wuuuu . . . . wo chu shi le! . . . Wode tou . . . . tou zai liuxie . . . . ." Na weiwei zhanli de shengyin, youdian mohu, que fenming shi erzi de shengyin meicuo.
[English paraphrase] At first, I couldn't understand what he spoke. But it was my son's voice. Obviously, my son was in a difficult situation. "Ooooh . . . my head is bleeding," he groaned. "Something bad is happening to me . . . ."

"Ni zai nali? . . . . Ni xianzai ren zai nali? . . . . " Wo fanfu wendao.
[English paraphrase] "Where are you? . . . Where are you now?" I asked, anxiously. But it seemed that he could not tell where the location was. Something terrible happened to him. It was not a car accident, but something even worse . . . He was beat. He was controlled, or kidnapped. It was no easy job for him to make a clear explanation at the moment!

Wo qichu buyi-youta, xin-li qishang-baxia. Haihao wo zhishi fanfu wendao, "Ni daodi zai shenme difang? Zai shenme xianshi, zong gai zhidao ba?" Bu qingchu ta ren zai nar, wo zenme you banfa xiezhu huo chuli ne! Wo shizhe wenzhu zijide qingxu, xiwang erzi ye neng zhending; bijing, yue shi huangluan zhi shi, yue yao lengjing yi dui cai xing.
[English paraphrase] Anyway, I had to know where he was. "If you don't tell me where you are," I said, "how can I help you solve the problem?" I tried to make my son calm down. And I tried to compose myself. I thought that it was important for both of us to keep our cool.

Zhongyu, wo fajue shiyouxiqiao . . . Wo gaosu na dui wo qiujiu de "erzi" shuo, "O! Wo mingbai le! Ni buyao jinghuang, wo zhe jiu qing sange ren guoqu ni nali." Jiezhe, wo guaduan dianhua.
[English paraphrase] Then, suddenly, I realized that this might be a so-called "telephone fraud." (There have been lots of telephone frauds in Taiwan these years!) I told my "son" on the phone, "Well, don't be afraid, son. I understand now. I know what to do. And I'm going to send three men to you right away." I hung up the phone, at last.

Wo pao dao lou-shang, yong fangjian-li de dianhuaji chakan "laidian xianshi" -- Guoran, laidianzhe wei "-P-", biaoshi private (haoma bu gongkai). Wo you yong shouji lianluo wode erzi. Ta ren hao duanduan de. Zheshi, wo queshi ke song yikou qi le. Turanjian, wo faxian erzi -- haiyou qita mei yige jiating chengyuan -- dui wo eryan, shi duome zhongyao, duome baobei a!
[English paraphrase] I ran upstairs immediately. I used the telephone set in my bedroom to find out who had just called me. The caller's number was unknown; only "-P-" (meaning "private"?) was displayed on the device. I used my cellular phone to double-check. Yes! I may completely relax now, I told myself. As you can see, my son is so very important to me -- just like any other member of my family!
