St. James' English Congregation Retreat, 2018

#2018-0406B

In the morning we gathered together at Liyu Lake (埔里 ● 鯉魚潭), in Puli, Nantou County. We spent one hour or so walking around the Lake; walking and chatting, looking around and taking photos! ...

Then we moved to Guanyin Villa (觀音山莊) for lunch. The restaurant is located at 79, Zhongshan Road, Section 1, in Puli (南投縣埔里鎮蜈蚣里中山路一段 79 號). Following lunch was our Coffee and Study Hour, which took place at the next door house called Song Yu Ting (松雨庭), which belongs to the same owner, Mr. Liao.

We learned (or reviewed) these kinds of things:

  1. In the Book of Common Prayer (BCP) we see Rite I and Rite II of the Holy Eucharist: Rite I uses beautiful, poetic old English, and Rite II uses familiar, contemporary English. Both are good.
  2. A Collect is a gathering prayer, and the BCP has Collects of the Day that reflect the themes found in our lessons.
  3. We worship with our whole bodies as well as with our minds and spirits. Episcopalians we use aerobics. We stand to praise and to pray, sit to listen, and kneel to confess or show devotion.
  4. .... (There are so many points for us to review and remember, but I don't think I should put everything here on this page!)

After the Coffee and Study Hour, we started singing (and dancing!) in the cozy coffee-bar, as Ms. Grace Chang, who is literally the "best" concert pianist, played for us lots of old songs and love songs. Oh! How happy we were at the moment! Our hearts were full of joy, as the whole room had been filled with the most beautiful music in the world! ...
