The BLC Meeting at St. Luke's

#2023-1221B

The Bilingual Language Club (BLC) convened at St. Luke's again this evening for the practice of oral English (and a bit of Japanese).

This time, we welcomed two new friends, whose nicknames are QQ and Duck, to join tonight's conversations. Duck's Japanese was impressive; he engaged in a conversation with Mr. Kakuta (from Japan), and they communicated quite effectively.

Among the familiar faces present tonight, I recall Ms. Trista (from the US), Mr. Kakuta (from Japan), Ms. Li'an Chen (from Chile), Mr. Function, Mr. Owen, Mr. Arthur, Ms. Mandy, Ms. Nina, and her son, Arshan.

Arshan is a lovely, handsome boy currently studying in elementary school. He appeared very interested in playing chess. Both Trista and I played with him respectively for a while during the meeting session to ensure he wouldn't feel bored spending hours with us adults tonight.

According to his mom, Nina, Arshan's father is Persian, hailing from Iran. I asked Nina if Arshan also learned to speak the Persian language. She replied, "Rarely. He doesn't even like speaking English with his dad because they have both learned quite a lot of Mandarin Chinese!"

It's beneficial to have opportunities to chat with those whose mother tongues and cultural backgrounds differ. When people from different parts of the world gather together, they can share and learn a lot from each other. Such conversations can undoubtedly enrich everyone's life!
