Today is the first Sunday of the year 2026, and also the Second Sunday after Christmas Day.
We are still celebrating Christmas — remembering the birth of our Lord Jesus Christ. Though the exact date is not found in the Bible, we Christians follow the long-held church tradition and celebrate the Nativity of the Lord around December 25. This past Christmas, I was especially joyful because I had the chance to play the Christmas Suite (聖誕組曲) on viola alongside St. Luke’s Saxophone Team on Christmas Eve.
On this Second Sunday after Christmas, the service was filled with festive joy. As we sang "嚴冬懷主歌" (In Winter We Cherish the Lord) for the Processional hymn, "披上喜樂歌" (Clothe Yourselves with Joy) for the Offertory, and "滿天榮耀歌" (Glory Fills the Heavens) for the Recessional, I felt deeply moved and truly blessed. I will let you in on a little secret: I especially loved today's Processional hymn — even more than the other two — perhaps because the weather has suddenly turned so cold these past few days!
After the service, and before lunch was served at the church, there was a birthday celebration for all the brothers and sisters whose birthdays fall in January. Our vicar, the Rev. Minglong Wu, was also among the birthday persons and blew out the birthday candle. Happy birthday to all the birthday persons!
