Ordination of a Deacon (何政隆傳道按立會吏聖職典禮)

#2010-1218

Congratulations! Dr. Philip Ho has been ordained a deacon of the Taiwan Episcopal Church.

Bishop David Lai and quite a number of priests (and some other deacons) came from other parts of Taiwan to St. James' in Taichung City, where the ordination took place this morning. Of course, our two mushi (meaning "priests" or "ministers" or "pastors") were also present at the ordination. Together with many of our "brothers and sisters" at St. James', Jean and I attended the ceremony. And we were deeply touched by what we saw and what we heard. [See the pictures below.]

This morning Rev. Charles Chen, Rector Emeritus, mentioned 3 key points in his sermon "words of encouragement":
(1) Zuo yige puren-moshi de lingxiu (Be a good leader by serving others as a faithful servant)
(2) Anzhe zhengyi fenjie zhenli de dao (Hold on to the Truth with righteousness)
(3) Suishi bei Shengling chongman (Be filled with the Holy Spirit all the time)
Although these words were, for the most part, said to encourage the new deacon to be a charismatic clergyman, I believe that they can be the motto of all good Christians, whether ordained or not.

As a layperson, I'm very grateful that there around me are so many good Christians [including Philip Ho] who are my good friends and good "spiritual teachers" in the Christian faith!
